Citizens of Ukraine with eye injuries can receive ophthalmological care free of charge: Ministry of Health
Military and civilian patients with injuries to the organs of vision, received as a result of combat operations, gunshot wounds or other injuries, can receive ophthalmological care, including eye prosthesis, free of charge institutions approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The program provides comprehensive treatment – from diagnosis to surgical intervention, including eye prosthetics, entirely at the expense of the state within the limits of the Medical Guarantee Program. An eye prosthesis is installed in cases where the eye is damaged or removed, which is especially relevant during wartime due to the increased number of eye injuries due to explosions, shrapnel and gunshot wounds.
Free ocular prosthetics services are available in medical institutions designated by the order of the Ministry of Health and contracted with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSHU). There are regional hospitals in 22 regions of Ukraine and the city of Kyiv, where patients can receive help at their place of residence, as well as extraterritorial centers that receive the most difficult cases from all over the country.
In specialized offices of ocular prosthetics, patients are consulted, standard prostheses are issued and records are kept. Laboratories of individual prosthetics make prostheses according to the patient’s needs and carry out repeated prosthetics.
The patient should contact the family or attending physician in order to receive an electronic referral to an ophthalmologist. In case of emergency hospitalization, for example due to injury or severe eye injury, help is provided without referral, and prosthetics is carried out further according to the established stages.
