“Coalition of the Determined” confirmed its readiness to provide security guarantees to Ukraine
More than 30 member countries of the “coalition of the determined” after the meeting on February 24 confirmed their participation in providing multi-level security guarantees for Ukraine with the support of the United States.
The meeting took place on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in a virtual meeting format. It was attended by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and leaders of about 30 countries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was joined by the heads of the Nordic countries, the Baltics, the EU and Croatia.
In a joint statement, the participants expressed their continued support for Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as in protecting the freedom of Europe. They welcomed US efforts for peace talks and stressed the need for all parties to participate, calling on Russia to engage constructively and agree to a full ceasefire.
In addition, the leaders confirmed their readiness to increase economic pressure on Russia. French President Emmanuel Macron said that there was little reason to hope for a short-term peace due to Russia’s lack of willingness to negotiate.
Earlier, on January 6, Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelensky signed a declaration on the possible deployment of troops in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.
