Contractors to be tried in Zhytomyr region for embezzlement of UAH 9.5 million during Ukrtransnafta’s repairs

A trial against contractors and an official of a state-owned enterprise accused of embezzling almost UAH 9.5 million during the reconstruction of a Ukrtransnafta oil pipeline facility has begun in Zhytomyr region. This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to the agency, during the overhaul of the line production station, contractors systematically overstated the cost of construction materials by engaging fictitious companies for procurement. It was found that some materials were purchased at significantly inflated prices, although they were supplied directly from manufacturers at initial, much lower prices.

An official of Ukrtransnafta did not check the quality of the work performed and approved financial reports without reconciliation, which allowed the contractors to seize a significant amount of public funds.

The criminals are accused of fraud and forgery, and the official is accused of negligence. The property of the accused has been seized and the case has been referred to court. The investigation was conducted by the SBU in Zhytomyr region and investigators from the Main Department of the National Police in the region.

For reference, in March 2023, the SBU, together with the Bureau of Economic Security, also investigated corruption schemes of the previous management of PJSC Ukrnafta and PJSC Ukrtatnafta, which illegally exported oil products to the black market.
