Creation of the zoo police in Ukraine: the petition has been submitted to the government for consideration
On April 8, a petition for the creation of a specialized zoo police unit within the structure of the National Police of Ukraine collected more than 25,000 signatures, in connection with which it was transferred for further consideration by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The initiator of the petition is the president of the Association of Animal Protection Organizations of Ukraine, Maryna Surkova, who emphasizes the constant increase in the number of cases of cruelty to animals. She noted the lack of knowledge and sometimes complete inaction of the police in cases related to the protection of animals.
According to animal rights activists, the creation of the zoo police will allow to effectively draw up reports on cases of cruelty, respond quickly to offenses, open criminal proceedings and conduct pre-trial investigations, as well as ensure control over compliance with the rules for keeping animals.
