Inefficient and unprofessional management: Zelensky was called to fire the Minister of Education Lisovoy
It was registered on the website of the President of Ukraine petition No. 41/006720-24ep on dismissal from the post of Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovoy. The author of the appeal is Iryna Bayda.
The document states that education remains one of the strategic sectors, even in conditions of full-scale war. Management of this area requires a high level of competence and responsibility, because the future of the country depends on the right decisions. However, today the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) is facing challenges that have never faced independent Ukraine. Lack of proper management and strategic planning is turning this industry into a field of chaos and uncertainty, threatening future generations.
“The current leadership of the Ministry of Education and Culture demonstrates incompetence and the inability to manage effectively in wartime conditions. The minister and his team, with their chaotic decisions, only create new problems in the education system, which is already experiencing extreme difficulties. The most acute example is the merger of higher education institutions, which universities learn about from the media and not through official channels, as well as the actual cancellation of entrance contests, which came as a shock to applicants”, – Bayda emphasized.
She noted that one of the most high-profile scandals concerns graduate school. The Ministry of Education and Culture failed to adequately predict the growth in the number of entrants in 2024, and with its belated changes in the rules, effectively blocked full-time training for contract workers. This decision deprived the state budget of significant revenues, while at the same time increasing expenses for budget places.
“Corruption risks also increase due to the opaque principles of allocation of budgetary places between higher education institutions. The absolute lack of clear rules of the game gives rise to corruption both at the level of allocation and at the admission stage. The current situation is a natural result of the work of the minister, who has already been accused of academic dishonesty – a fact , which in a European country would lead to immediate resignation. The dubious actions of one of the deputy ministers, in particular Mykhailo Vinnytskyi, raise questions about compliance with anti-corruption legislation.”, says the text of the petition.
At the same time, it is noted that the Ukrainian system of education and science currently functions not thanks to, but contrary to the actions of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Inefficient management and the inability to cope with the challenges of war pose a real threat to the education sector.
“We demand the immediate resignation of the Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovoy, and his deputies, in order to give the education system in Ukraine a chance to get out of the crisis and develop in the right direction.”, – emphasized the author of the petition.
