Danish intelligence accused the Russian Navy of numerous provocations
Danish military intelligence accused the Russian navy of numerous provocations in the straits connecting the Baltic and North seas. reports Reuters.
According to intelligence data, Russian ships repeatedly committed aggressive actions: they pointed weapons at Danish planes and ships, performed dangerous maneuvers that almost led to collisions, and also jammed navigation systems. Against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the Baltic region due to damage to submarine cables and violation of airspace, Denmark reported a new wave of deliberate provocations by the Russian fleet.
At a special briefing, the director of military intelligence of Denmark, Thomas Arenkiel, presented evidence of aggressive behavior of the Russian Federation:
“We recorded a number of cases in the Danish Straits when Russian warships aimed weapons at our helicopters and ships, as well as used tracking systems”.
Arenkiel also reported that Russian ships deliberately chose courses that posed a threat of collision with Danish ships. In addition, one of the Russian ships has been anchored in Danish waters for more than a week. Intelligence considers this a signal from Russia that it is ready to use force if Denmark restricts the movement of the so-called “shadow fleet”. According to Arenkiel, there are reasons to believe that these actions caused serious GPS failures on the territory of Denmark.
“Russia applies military pressure, using aggressive methods, without crossing the border of an open armed conflict”, he concluded.
