Defense against missiles and drones will be strengthened: Germany handed over the third Patriot air defense system to Ukraine
In recent months, members of the Ukrainian crew of the system have successfully completed training.
Ukraine received the third Patriot anti-aircraft missile complex, the delivery of which was previously announced by the German authorities. About this in his post on the social network H reported German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger.
“The third Patriot air defense system from Germany has already arrived in Ukraine. It will strengthen the protection of the country’s population and infrastructure against aircraft, drones and missiles,” he noted.
In addition, the diplomat noted that in recent months, members of the Ukrainian crew have successfully undergone appropriate training in Germany.
Before that, it became known about the discussion by the German authorities about the possibility of transferring another Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. At the same time, the German Ministry of Defense signed a new contract for the supply of four Patriot systems to the Bundeswehr. In addition, the framework contract for the supply of four more systems from 2028 is being prepared. The purpose of the new purchases is, first of all, to fill the gap that arose as a result of the supply of air defense systems to Ukraine.
On June 20, members of the Supreme Defense Council of Romania decided to transfer one Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. In addition, the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands, Kaisa Ollongren, announced the transfer of another Patriot system.
Patriot is a powerful anti-aircraft missile system capable of significantly strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities. Its advantage lies in the ability to shoot down cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as enemy aircraft, which ensures the protection of cities and critical infrastructure.
