The Council adopted a law prohibiting advertising of medicines on packages
The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading the draft law on the labeling of medicinal products, reported co-chair of the “European Solidarity” parliamentary faction Iryna Gerashchenko in her Telegram channel.
Bill №11172 received the support of 318 people’s deputies. The purpose of the law is to harmonize Ukrainian legislation with the requirements of Directive 2001/83/EC of the European Parliament and Council of November 6, 2001, which concerns the regulation of medicinal products for humans.
The new law prohibits the placement on the primary and secondary packaging of medicinal products of any advertising or information that may contribute to the promotion of these products on the market. In addition, it is prohibited to import into Ukraine and sell medicinal products, the labeling of which contains information about other legal entities or individuals who are not manufacturers or owners of the registration certificate for the medicinal product.
However, it is allowed to indicate information about the manufacturer, the owner of the registration certificate, as well as data on the use of the medicinal product on the packaging.
The law will enter into force four months after its official promulgation. Its adoption is aimed at strengthening the protection of consumer rights, increasing the responsibility of manufacturers and sellers of medicinal products, and ensuring fair competition on the market.
