The US and the Kremlin reacted to Zelensky’s letter to Putin

The Kremlin commented on the open letter of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Putin and stated that they had already familiarized themselves with its contents. According to Russian media, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the official reaction to the letter would be announced later.

He said that he had already read Zelensky’s letter to Putin, but the Kremlin leader would be acquainted with it only after a meeting with the president of Uzbekistan.

According to Peskov, if Volodymyr Zelensky really wants negotiations, he can come to Moscow. At the same time, Putin has not yet responded publicly to the letter. The Kremlin representative noted that the letter of the Ukrainian President to Putin will be reported later.

At the same time, US President Donald Trump expressed support for a possible meeting of the heads of Ukraine and Russia to discuss ways to end the war. He said this during a conversation with reporters at the White House, commenting on Zelensky’s letter.

“They are both very good people. It would be great if Zelensky and Putin met for negotiations,” said Donald Trump.

He added that he positively assessed the very possibility of such negotiations. At the same time, he emphasized the role of the United States in supporting Ukraine:

“Without our military and our equipment, Ukraine would not have been able to continue the fight today. Without the equipment that I provided them, Ukraine would not have lasted even a day or two.”

Trump also said that he expects both sides to be willing to compromise in order to resolve the war.

“I offered these concessions, and, you know, we have made a lot of efforts to do this. I want each side to make certain concessions, and I think they will,” he said.

In his open letter, Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that Vladimir Putin hold a personal meeting to discuss ending the war. The document was published by the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The head of state noted that over the more than 26 years of Putin’s tenure in power, the agenda in relations between the two countries has changed from economic and civilian issues to war and human losses.

Separately, Zelenskyy recalled Ukrainian long-range drones that covered more than a thousand kilometers and reached St. Petersburg.

“As you well know, this distance is not the limit of our capabilities,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.

The president emphasized that the war against Ukraine is Putin’s personal decision, and not a consequence of NATO expansion, geopolitical processes, or the language issue.

According to Zelenskyy, the consequences of the war are increasingly felt by Russia itself. He mentioned Russian discontent with Ukrainian drone and missile attacks, gasoline shortages, rising prices, restrictions, the risk of new mobilization, and the lack of prospects for ending the war.

“You will not have enough money and political power to continue buying the loyalty of Russians, as you have done for 26 years,” Zelensky stressed.

He also cited data on the losses of the Russian army in May, stating that more than 30 thousand soldiers were killed and seriously wounded. According to him, Ukraine maintains this level of enemy losses every month, and each case has video confirmation. The president noted that among the losses of Russian forces, 63% are killed and 37% are wounded.

“In the 21st century, armies cannot afford such a balance. In the future, the share of those killed will increase,” Volodymyr Zelensky noted.
