Demand for electric vehicles in Ukraine doubled in March

A total of 6,361 electric vehicles were registered in Ukraine in March across three segments — new, imported used, and used on the domestic market. This is more than double the February figure. This is reported by the Institute for Research on the Auto Market.

“The main sensational indicator is the explosive growth of domestic resales, which jumped by an incredible 124.6% compared to February. Such anomalous demand was a direct consequence of the fuel shock: when the average cost of a liter of diesel fuel reached 86 UAH, and A-95 gasoline confidently holds at 72 UAH”, – analysts explain.

In addition to domestic resales, imports of used electric cars also increased significantly – by 84.9% compared to February. Also added the segment of new cars, where the growth was 55.5%.

According to analysts, the leader in the domestic secondary market remains the Nissan Leaf with an indicator of 661 cars. Next are the Tesla Model 3, which was registered with 428, and the Tesla Model Y — 311.

In the segment of imported used electric cars, the demand structure almost repeats the domestic market, but here more attention is paid to more recent years of production and better technical condition. The top three also included the Nissan Leaf — 204 cars, Tesla Model 3 — 197 and Tesla Model Y — 197.

As analysts note, in March the segment of new electric cars completely passed under the leadership of Chinese brands. The first place was taken by BYD Leopard 3 with a result of 33 cars, followed by BYD Sia Lion 06 — 27 and Zeekr 001 — 26.
