Hungary declared its desire to restore mutual trust with Ukraine
Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban stated that Budapest seeks to restore trust in relations with Ukraine. This is how she reacted to the message of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Szybiga about a new stage in bilateral relations.
“Hungary seeks to restore trust with Ukraine through concrete results, mutual respect and full protection of the rights of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia”, — wrote the Hungarian Foreign Minister.
The day before, it was reported that Hungary had lifted its 17-month veto on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. The new Hungarian government has signaled its readiness to allow the start of official accession negotiations for Ukraine and Moldova.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar stated that Budapest would support Ukraine’s membership process in the European Union in exchange for an agreement to expand the linguistic, educational, cultural and political rights of the Hungarian minority.
Thus, Budapest’s position remains linked to the issue of the rights of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia, but recent statements indicate the possibility of intensifying the dialogue between Ukraine and Hungary.
