In May 2025, Skype will permanently stop working

In May 2025, the Internet telephony service Skype will finally stop its work. Customers who use the service are offered to switch to an alternative program, Teams. About this informs site of the XDA mobile developer community.

“Starting May, Skype will no longer be available. Keep calling and chatting in Teams,” – it is stated in the notification.

The app was first launched in 2003 and was acquired by Microsoft in 2011. In 2017, the corporation introduced the Teams collaboration platform, based on Skype. Version Windows 10 (1511) still had Skype integration, but already in Windows 11 (2021), Microsoft made the free personal version of Teams the main messenger.

XDA specialists point out that Skype has not become as popular as Microsoft expected, especially against the background of competition with Apple’s FaceTim and the launch of other proprietary communication services. Shutting down Skype, which has seen a steady decline in popularity, seems like a natural move, especially after the company ended support for Skype for Business in 2017.
