Donald Trump and Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation on trade and the war in Ukraine
US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, during which trade and the war in Ukraine were discussed.
“I just finished a very productive conversation with President Xi of China. We made progress on many very important issues, including trade, fentanyl, the need to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, and approval of the TikTok deal. I also agreed with President Xi that we will meet at the APEC summit in South Korea,’ Trump said.
According to the American president, an agreement was also reached with Xi on a meeting at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea, and in the future – on mutual visits. Trump plans to go to China in 2026, and Xi will visit the United States at an appropriate time.
This is the first conversation between the leaders of the US and China since June, which took place against the background of announced agreements on the future of the social network TikTok and negotiations on trade issues.
Recall that on September 16, Donald Trump extended the postponement of a possible ban on TikTok until December 16, despite the previously announced agreement with China regarding this application. The decree of the President of the United States obliges the federal agencies “to take no action” under a law that deems TikTok a national security threat because of its ties to China. Thus, the app may be blocked in the US if it does not get rid of the Chinese owner.
