The Ukrainian-Polish border has been strengthened with modern mobile scanners

Four new mobile scanning systems from the American company Varex Imaging have been launched in test mode at strategic sections of the Ukrainian-Polish border. The new equipment should expand customs control capabilities, help detect hidden goods faster, and increase the effectiveness of countering violations. This was reported by the press center of the State Customs Service.

A feature of these systems is the use of artificial intelligence for image analysis. The software is able to automatically detect risks and anomalies, which reduces the impact of the human factor and increases the accuracy of checks. The scanners can work with trucks, cars, and minibuses, which allows them to be used flexibly depending on the traffic flow.

Currently, the equipment has already been deployed at the Yagodyn, Rava-Ruska, and Krakivets checkpoints. Another scanner is planned to be put into operation at the Shegyny checkpoint after its reconstruction is completed. The supply of these systems took place within the framework of the intergovernmental agreement between Ukraine and Poland on the provision of a loan under the conditions of tied assistance.

It is expected that the use of new scanners will reduce the time for customs clearance of transport and increase the throughput capacity of checkpoints, especially during peak load periods. Varex Imaging, whose equipment is used in more than 150 countries around the world, is known for the reliability and efficiency of such systems.

We also recall that the implementation of the EES digital system — the “entry/exit system” intended for third-country nationals — has begun at checkpoints on the border with Romania.
