Donald Trump responded to the shooting near the White House

US President Donald Trump thanked law enforcement for the prompt response to the shooting near the White House, during which an armed attacker was killed. Trump wrote about this in Truth Social.

The US President said that the shooter allegedly had a criminal past and was also “obsessed with the most expensive building in the country.”

Donald Trump recalled the shooting that occurred on April 25 in Washington during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at a hotel. He was there with First Lady Melania Trump and officials from his administration. The US President again stated the need to complete the construction of a “secure ballroom” in the White House.

“This event occurred one month after the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and shows how important it is for all future presidents to have the most secure facility of its kind ever built in Washington, D.C. The national security of our country demands it!”, — Trump wrote.

On the evening of May 23, an unknown person opened fire on US Secret Service officers at a checkpoint near the White House. The man approached the checkpoint near the White House complex and began shooting at the guards. In response, Secret Service officers opened fire and wounded the attacker. He later died in the hospital.

A bystander was also injured during the shooting. His condition is listed as critical. It is currently unknown whether he was injured during the first shot or during the exchange of fire.

No Secret Service officers were injured. Donald Trump was at the residence and was not in danger. The White House grounds were temporarily closed after the shooting. Journalists and staff were evacuated to shelters, and armed agents combed the area.
