Several US military bases in Europe are on high alert

Several US military bases in Europe were placed on high alert over the weekend due to the threat of possible terrorist attacks.

About this informs CNN with reference to two American officials.

In particular, on June 30, the alert level was raised to “Charlie” force protection status at the base in Stuttgart (Germany), where the headquarters of the US European Command is located. This status is entered in cases where there is an incident or received intelligence indicating a possible terrorist act or attack.

One US official said they had not seen this level of threat in at least 10 years, which usually indicates an active and verified threat.

It is not yet known what intelligence led to the increased security, but European authorities have warned of a possible terrorist threat on the continent, especially ahead of the Olympic Games in Paris and the European Football Championship in Germany.

Germany and France have already taken measures to strengthen security. The German government has brought in 580 international police officers, while France has raised its national security system to its highest level since March.
