Donald Trump’s administration has approved the first two packages of military aid to Ukraine worth $500 million from NATO funds
The administration of US President Donald Trump has approved the first two military aid packages for Ukraine financed by NATO. It is expected that they can be sent in the near future. reports Reuters.
U.S. Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby clarified that it is about two batches of weapons worth a total of $500 million within the framework of the PURL mechanism. This was the first case of using a new mechanism that the US and its allies developed to supply Ukraine with weapons from US warehouses at the expense of funding from NATO countries.
The PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) program is a new joint initiative of the US and NATO, the purpose of which is to accelerate the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Within the framework of this system, Ukraine compiles a list of the most important needs in armaments and submits it to NATO. Next, the partner countries allocate funding for the purchase of American weapons that meet the requirements specified in the list.
Funds are deposited into a special NATO account, after which weapons are purchased directly from the United States. This approach makes it possible to quickly and purposefully provide support to Ukrainian troops.
Recall that on August 25, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that European countries will allocate 1 billion euros per month for the purchase of American weapons within the framework of the PURL mechanism.
