A man who shot a soldier and prepared assassination attempts on officials will be tried in Kharkiv

In Kharkiv, an indictment against a man who committed the murder of a Ukrainian serviceman, planned assassinations of officials and carried out acts of sabotage was sent to the court for consideration. Indictment approved Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

It is about a 55-year-old man, a native of Yevpatoria, Autonomous Republic of Crimea, who had numerous criminal records. After 2015, he moved to Belgorod in Russia. The man, fascinated by the Russian ideology, got into the field of view of the special services of the Russian Federation and concluded an agreement with representatives of the FSB on the execution of subversive tasks on the territory of Ukraine.

In February 2024, the agent arrived in Kharkiv. The first task received from the Russian curators was the murder of a Ukrainian soldier. On the evening of March 5, the suspect shot a serviceman in the back near a high-rise building in Kharkiv. The victim died on the spot.

Later, acting on his own initiative in the interests of the aggressor country, the agent carried out a series of sabotages in Kharkiv. On the night of March 26, he threw an M67 hand grenade in the direction of the Shevchenkiv district administration. As a result of the explosion, material damage was caused in the amount of about 2.5 million hryvnias. Later, the agent planted an explosive device near the entrance door of the Interdistrict Specialized Traumatology Medical Center in Kharkiv. The explosion damaged the structure of the door, after which the attacker fled the scene.

Among the tasks he had to perform was also an attempt on the head of the Dergachyv city military administration. The agent collected information about the official’s schedule, routes and habits. In October 2024, he made a radio-controlled explosive device and planted it under the body of a car, securing the explosives with a magnet. The official discovered the device in time and contacted the police.

The next target was the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration. The agent planned to blow up the car used by the official for a reward of 50,000 US dollars. However, due to an active search by Ukrainian law enforcement officers, the implementation of the plan was postponed. The accused also set fire to two military vehicles in Kharkiv.

Law enforcement agencies monitored the agent’s movements. At the end of October 2024, he was detained in an electric train while trying to leave the city. The suspect was remanded in custody without bail.

The case will be considered by the Dzerzhinsky District Court of the city of Kharkiv. The maximum penalty that the accused faces is life imprisonment. The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the investigators of the Investigative Department of the State Police in the Kharkiv region.
