Donald Trump sued The New York Times for $15 billion

US President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against The New York Times, four of its journalists and publisher Penguin Random House for at least $15 billion, accusing them of spreading defamation and misinformation. reports Reuters.

The lawsuit refers to a series of New York Times stories, including an editorial published before the 2024 presidential election, which argued that Trump was unfit for office. Also in question is a book published by Penguin in 2024 called “The Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Wasted His Father’s Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success.

“Defendants maliciously published the book and articles knowing that those publications contained disgusting misrepresentations and fabrications about President Trump”, says the lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida.

In the document, Trump’s lawyers claim that these publications have damaged his business and personal reputation, significantly reduced the value of his brand and negatively affected his future financial prospects.

The lawsuit comes after Trump last week threatened to sue the New York Times over its publication of an allegedly sexually explicit memo and drawing given to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump accused the publication of lying about himself, his family and business, as well as about movements and ideologies supported by Republicans, including “America First”. and “Make America Great Again” (MAGA).

Recall that in June, Trump filed a lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal and its owners, including Rupert Murdoch, for at least $10 billion. The reason was the publication of information that his name was mentioned in Epstein’s birthday greetings in 2003.
