In France, the deputies expressed no confidence in the government of François Bairro

At an extraordinary session of the National Assembly in Paris, deputies voted by a majority of votes of no confidence in the government of Francois Bairro, and now he must submit his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron. reports France Info.

A total of 364 parliamentarians spoke out against the government, and 194 supported it. Such a decision automatically means the fall of the cabinet. Francois Bayrou plans to resign on September 9. He stayed in office for nine months.

In his address to the deputies, Bairu stated:

“You have the power to overthrow the government, but not the power to erase reality”.

He initiated the vote to discuss the deficit of the state budget and necessary measures to reduce it. Representatives of political forces expressed different positions. The leader of the opposition, Marine Le Pen, emphasized that for President Macron, the resignation of the government is not an “option, but an obligation”.

The head of the left faction “ Recalcitrant France” Matilda Pano called for a “cleaning” government, while the head of the presidential group “Revival” Gabriel Attal proposed to conclude an “agreement on common interests” between “republican forces” to ensure stability for the next year and a half.

We would like to remind you that this is the second vote of no confidence in the Bairu government in 2025. In February, he invoked Article 49.3 of the Constitution, which allows for the adoption of the budget without a vote. Then “Rebellious France” passed a motion of no confidence, but Bair managed to hold back thanks to the neutrality of the socialists.

His predecessor, Michel Barnier, did not last three months in office – he received a vote of no confidence due to disputes over the state health insurance budget.

After the current decision, Bayrou must by law submit a resignation letter to President Macron. The publication Le Monde reports that the president may ask ministers to temporarily remain in their posts to guarantee the uninterrupted work of the authorities.

There is also a possibility of dissolving the National Assembly and calling early elections. However, given the growing influence of the National Front, Macron may be cautious about this decision. After the appointment, the new prime minister must form a government and present it to the parliament. If the deputies reject the composition of the new cabinet, it will lead to new political negotiations.
