Estonia will transfer more than 150 THeMIS combat unmanned platforms to Ukraine

Estonian company Milrem Robotics will hand over 150 THeMIS combat unmanned platforms to Ukraine as part of a project financed and coordinated by the Netherlands. Part of the devices will be assembled in cooperation with VDL Defendec, Milrem Robotics reported.

Ukraine will receive more than 150 THeMIS ground unmanned aerial vehicles developed by Milrem Robotics, the deliveries will be made as a donation for the financing of the Netherlands, and a significant part of the machines will undergo assembly together with VDL Defendec. The transfer was first reported in September without the name of the donor. The official signing of the agreement took place on October 6 at the VDL plant in Born with the participation of the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Ruben Breckelmans.

THeMIS is a multifunctional unmanned platform for supporting infantry, logistics, reconnaissance and combat missions, which is in operation or undergoing testing in 19 countries around the world.

Milrem Robotics Netherlands, together with VDL Defendec, organizes the assembly of equipment on a new production line designed for large-scale production, and will also train Ukrainian operators and technical personnel for the use of robots in combat conditions.

“The THeMIS platform has already proven its effectiveness on the battlefield, and we are sure that this contribution will significantly strengthen the defense capability of Ukraine”, said Milrem Robotics CEO Kuldar Vyaarsy.

The new vehicles will complement 15 THeMIS platforms, which are already in use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 2022.
