EU allocates €3 million to IAEA for work at Ukrainian power substations

The European Commission has allocated 3 million euros to support IAEA monitoring missions at nuclear power plants in Ukraine, including work at substations that are critical to the operation of these plants. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

As noted by the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, the funding was provided within the framework of the European Instrument for International Cooperation in the Field of Nuclear Safety. She emphasized that Russian attacks on key substations that ensure the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants pose a serious threat, which is why the EU allocates these funds to support IAEA missions at such facilities.

Kadri Simson also assured that the European Union will continue to provide assistance to the Ukrainian energy sector, especially in the context of preparations for the winter period.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Galushchenko, emphasized the importance of importing electricity for balancing the energy system and expressed hope for an increase in capacity for importing electricity from EU countries.

It is important to note that IAEA monitoring missions will now operate at critical substations, as a stable external power supply is critical to the safety of nuclear power plants. Attacks on energy infrastructure continue to pose serious risks to the safe operation of nuclear power plants.
