Marriage in one click: opinions of Ukrainians about marriage through “Diya”

Ukrainians now have the opportunity to get married via video link through the Diya portal, which officials say is an important development for the country’s digital world, as well as for the military, who can marry even while on the front lines.

Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized the importance of this service for those who protect Ukraine. The digital ceremony allows you to get married in 30 minutes, and the certificate will appear immediately in the application. You can also make an offer in “Diya”, and the chosen one will receive a notification with the opportunity to respond within 14 days. This is an innovation that caused lively discussions among Ukrainians, especially in social networks.

IA “FAKT” collected the opinions of Ukrainians on this matter, which they expressed on Facebook:

“Finally, Ukraine offers modern solutions! For the military, this is simply a salvation – you can get married even while in the trenches. A very important innovation,” – admires Anton from Dnipro.

“If we can work online, why not get married? This is another proof that digitalization makes life easier even in such matters,” – believes Oleksandr, an IT worker from Kharkiv.

“I am very skeptical about this. It somehow devalues the event itself. Marriage is a festive day that should be celebrated in the family circle, not through a phone screen,” – writes Marina from Lviv.

“Honestly, I would not want such a ceremony. It is important for me that there are guests, a dress, the face of the registrar… A virtual wedding? Not for me,” – notes Natalia from Ternopil.

“It’s very useful for those who are at war, but also for those who live abroad. Now you don’t have to fly home to get married,” – emphasizes Iryna, who temporarily lives in Poland.

“Diya continues to amaze! This is probably one of the most modern ways to get married in the world. Even a year ago, this was unimaginable,” – shared by Maksym from Kyiv.

“It seems to me that this new service is perfect for our time. Technology saves us from unnecessary bureaucracy, queues and stress. Now you can get married quickly and without hassle,” – notes Anna from Odessa.

“My friend got married through Diya and they even did a little online celebration. I think it’s a cool idea for someone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of time and money on a traditional wedding.” – says Olga from Vinnytsia.

“It scares me a little… Digitization draws us into a new world where even personal moments become virtual. And what’s next? Virtual parenthood?”, – ironically Andrii from Chernihiv.

“When you are constantly traveling, it is convenient. But still, I would like a real ceremony. This is one of those events that should be alive,” – considers Oleksandr from Kherson.

“For those who serve, it is very convenient. I myself recently got married through the “Diya” at the front. It was unusual, but the important thing is that now we are officially married,” – writes Ihor, a military man from the Donetsk region.

“Not sure if proposing via an app is a good idea. Wouldn’t it be better to do it face-to-face? It’s a moment you want to remember, not just a notification,” – comments Serhiy from Zaporizhzhia.

“I think this is a big step forward for the country. If it weren’t for Diya, I wouldn’t have been able to get married before going abroad,” – emphasizes Tatyana from Chernivtsi.

“We live in times when everything is going digital. Maybe that’s a good thing. But not everyone is ready to accept such changes,” – believes Kateryna from Uzhhorod.

“And what if the Internet disappears during the ceremony? It’s still not as stable as offline,” – ironically Pavlo from Kyiv region.

“This is another indicator that Ukraine is keeping up with the times. We should be proud of how our state is digitalizing even during war,” – shared by Viktor from Sumy.

“It’s great that you can change your last name or get a double right in the app. Technology makes life easier,” – writes Lilia from Rivne.

The new function of marriage through “Diya” caused a wave of discussions among Ukrainians. Some see this as a revolutionary convenience, especially for the military and those overseas. Others are skeptical that such important moments of life are transferred to a digital format. In any case, Ukraine continues to lead in the field of digital services, opening up new opportunities even in the most difficult times.
