For the first time in history: Telegram became profitable and earned $540 million

For the first time in its existence, the Telegram messenger demonstrated a financial breakthrough. For 2024, the company ended the year with net income of $540 million. About this informs Financial Times, citing internal company financial data.
The financial breakthrough looks even more impressive when you remember that only a year earlier — in 2023 — Telegram had a $173 million loss. In 2024, the situation changed dramatically: the company’s total revenue reached 1.4 billion dollars. This is more than four times more than in 2023, when Telegram earned $343 million.
Almost half of all revenues — more than $700 million — came from so-called “ecosystem revenues” and partner projects. The company received another 292 million from paid premium subscriptions, and approximately 250 million from the advertising service.
Telegram does not stop there. According to Financial Times sources, the company plans to increase its revenues to $2 billion in 2025. If the plan works, it will represent a 46% increase in just one year. Expected profit at the end of 2025 — 720 million dollars.
Such data was revealed to investors in the context of a new round of fundraising. Telegram is preparing to issue bonds worth $1.5 billion — the goal is to buy out existing debt. Interestingly, investors who participate in the offering will have the right to buy Telegram shares at a 20% discount if the company goes to IPO.
