For the first time in the history of Ukraine, fish stocking was carried out at the expense of the State Budget
For the first time in Ukraine carried outstocking of the reservoir at the expense of State Budget funds received from an increase in the starting price at auctions for the sale of the right to conclude contracts for the special use of aquatic biological resources (industrial fishing).
In the city of Pereyaslav, Kyiv region, more than 6.5 thousand fish — silver carp, carp, and grass carp — with a total weight of 1,240 kg were released into the waters of the Kaniv Reservoir.
“We are demonstrating a new model of responsible governance that proves that reforms in the fisheries sector can be effective when they are backed by transparency and public trust. Together, we are creating conditions for Ukrainian reservoirs to be alive, highly productive, and rich for future generations.”, — said the head of the State Fisheries Agency, Igor Klymenok.
Stocking is an important step for preserving the biodiversity of the Kaniv Reservoir, improving its ecological state, restoring natural populations, and creating favorable conditions for fishing. Control over the introduction of aquatic bioresources was carried out by representatives of the Kyiv Fish Protection Patrol of the State Fish Agency and the public.
The bighead carp is a natural filter feeder that feeds on phytoplankton and helps to control water blooms caused by excessive algae growth. The grass carp, as an active phytophagous, effectively controls the spread of aquatic vegetation, reducing the risks of overgrowing water bodies, silting of banks and the formation of stagnant zones. The carp, which feeds near the bottom, contributes to the aeration of bottom sediments and supports biochemical processes in the coastal zone.
