The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have exposed a former high-ranking official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in a large-scale scheme of embezzlement of public funds and bribery. About this informs NABU press office.
The ex-official is suspected of fraud with the purchase of equipment for video surveillance and access control, as well as receiving premium cars worth more than 6 million hryvnias. According to the investigation, the entrepreneur who supplied equipment for the Ministry of Internal Affairs significantly overestimated its cost. In 2018-2019, he gave the official four luxury cars through his public organization.
In 2020, the state institution purchased this equipment, despite its inflated price, which caused losses to the state budget of more than 16 million hryvnias. After the dismissal of the official, the cars remained in his use, as they were “gifted” through a formal contract.
We will remind that earlier NABU and SAP informed about the suspicion to the current People’s Deputy, who was a co-organizer of the scheme to seize the funds of “Ukrzaliznytsia” during the purchase of cable and conductor products.
