Gas prices in Ukraine fall for second month in a row

Gas prices on the European market are gradually decreasing. A similar trend is observed in Ukraine — the price of gas is falling for the second month in a row. About this informs Ministry of Economy.

In May 2025, the actual sale price of gas in Ukraine decreased by 3.9% and amounted to 15,507 hryvnias per thousand cubic meters excluding VAT. At the same time, the price remains higher than in May 2024, when it was 12,460 hryvnias. On the European market, gas currently costs approximately 430 dollars per thousand cubic meters, which is equivalent to 17.8 thousand hryvnias. Since the beginning of the year, the price has fallen by 35%.

Due to the Russian shelling, the gas infrastructure was damaged, which has already led to a reduction in production volumes in Ukraine. According to the forecasts of the National Bank, production volumes will gradually recover, but this will not be enough to fully cover domestic needs — both for industry, housing and communal services and households.

According to NBU estimates, gas import costs will amount to about 2.9 billion dollars. According to the memorandum with the IMF, in 2025 Ukraine plans to import up to 4 billion cubic meters of gas to meet domestic consumption.

Currently, there is a moratorium on increasing gas tariffs for the population in Ukraine. Households actually receive gas from the state-owned company “Naftogaz of Ukraine” at a fixed price — 7,960 hryvnias per thousand cubic meters (including VAT, excluding delivery costs).

At the same time, in the letter of intent to the IMF leadership, the Ukrainian authorities envisage the possibility of a gradual increase in utility tariffs for the population even during martial law. The increase will be implemented “as soon as conditions permit.” Tariffs will also rise after the war is over.
