Germany rejected Trump’s idea to return Russia to the G7
Russia will not be re-admitted to the Group of Seven (G7), as proposed by US President Donald Trump, as his initiative will not receive the necessary unanimous support. About this stated German Finance Minister Jörg Kukis, Reuters reports.
“The G7’s condemnation of Russia’s aggressive war is very clear, especially on the third anniversary of Russia’s brutal attack,” – Kukis emphasized, adding that Trump’s proposal has no chance of being adopted.
He also noted that the G7 countries may discuss the possibility of using $300 billion in Russian assets frozen in Europe to rebuild Ukraine, but these discussions are just beginning.
“It’s probably too early to tell,” – he added.
It will be recalled that on February 13, Donald Trump said that he wants Russia to return to the G7, calling its exclusion a “mistake” made during the presidency of Barack Obama. The Russian Federation was excluded from the G7 (then G8) in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea and the start of the war in eastern Ukraine.
