Germany transfers additional Patriot systems to Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine has strengthened the Patriot system component in its air defense with the support of Germany.

The head of state thanked German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for this “joint step to protect lives from Russian terror”. He noted that preparations for strengthening air defense have been ongoing for some time, and now “the agreements reached have been fulfilled”.

“Ukraine now has more Patriots. I want to thank Chancellor Merz. Thank you to Germany and everyone who helps – our agreements have been fulfilled. There are still Patriots in Ukraine. We are including them in the work. Of course, the entire territory of our state needs more systems to cover key infrastructure facilities, Zelensky said in an evening address on November 2.

The President emphasized that Ukraine continues to work on creating a reliable air defense system not only at the political level with partners and world leaders, but also in cooperation with manufacturers of relevant systems and missiles.

“There will be meetings on this next week. We presented to our partners all the calculations, all possible options for how to ensure sufficiently reliable air defense, the president noted.

He emphasized that Russian air strikes remain the main stake of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in the war, because “it is through terror that he wants to compensate for the inability to achieve his crazy goals on the ground.”

“Therefore, every strengthening of our air defense literally brings us closer to the end of the war, which we are all waiting for. The less Russia succeeds, the greater its motive to end the war will be,” the president explained.

As a reminder, on September 29, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that the country would transfer two more Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine by the end of 2025 with the support of Norwegian partners.
