In the coming years, Germany will annually provide financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 9 billion euros. German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Finance Lars Klingbeil stated this during a meeting with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, reports Tagesschau.
“We will support Ukraine with nine billion every year. This is a big contribution, Lars Klingbeil noted.
He also emphasized Germany’s readiness to join possible security guarantees. During the visit, Klingbeil held a separate meeting with the Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Serhii Marchenko, where they discussed the state of the state’s financial system, the needs of the budget for 2026, and interaction with the International Monetary Fund.
According to data of the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance, the amount of direct budget support from Germany since the beginning of the full-scale war amounts to 1.6 billion euros, of which 1.3 billion euros have been provided in in the form of grants. During the conversation about the formation of the budget for 2026, Marchenko noted that the planning process is still taking place under conditions of high uncertainty. He explained that if the active phase of hostilities is maintained, the amount of support from partners will remain at least at the level of the current year.
According to him, long-term solutions are needed to restore and ensure the stability of the financial system. Both parties agreed to continue the dialogue regarding the expansion of mechanisms for budgetary support of Ukraine in 2026 and beyond.
Also, the parties discussed the progress of Ukraine on the path of European integration. The government continues to implement the necessary policies and structural reforms, and also aligns Ukrainian legislation with EU norms for further full integration. Serhii Marchenko expressed his gratitude to Germany and all European partners for recognizing the transformational processes taking place in Ukraine despite the war.
