Google is launching a new feature in its Chrome browser that will reduce the number of unwanted notifications

Google has announced the launch of a new feature in its Chrome browser designed to reduce the number of unwanted notifications, reports TechCrunch.

From now on, the system will automatically revoke permissions to display notifications from those sites with which users have not interacted for a long time. The function will become available both on Android and in desktop versions of the browser.

The mechanism will work similarly to Chrome’s current security check, which revokes camera or geolocation permissions for inactive sites. According to the company, less than 1% of all notifications receive any kind of user response, indicating that the tool is not very effective. At the same time, installed web applications will not fall under the restrictions, because they can send useful messages.

Changes will apply to resources with low user activity and a large number of notifications. This may force sites that send excessive messages to review their policies in order not to lose access to this option. Users will be notified of revoked permissions and will be able to restore them in settings. In addition, Chrome provides an option to completely disable automatic management of this process.

The company noted that the function was tested before the official launch and the results showed that the number of clicks on notifications did not change significantly, which confirms that most users hardly interact with them.
