Hackers managed to steal more than $570 million in cryptocurrency in just 3 months: details

Immunefi, a leading blockchain security platform, has published a report revealing staggering losses in the cryptocurrency industry in the second quarter of 2024. Hackers and fraudsters during this period stole digital assets in the amount of $572.68 million, which is 112% more than in the previous quarter.

According to the report, 72 cases of hacking and fraud were recorded, of which 53 were related to hacker attacks. Centralized financial platforms (CeFi) suffered the biggest losses, accounting for 70% of all losses. The most affected were the Japanese exchange DMM Bitcoin ($305 million) and the Turkish platform BtcTurk ($55 million).

Ethereum and BNB Chain became the most popular targets for attackers, with 34 and 18 incidents, respectively. In total, hackers stole $564.23 million, and fraudsters stole $8.45 million. Only $26.73 million was recovered, which is only 5% of the total amount of losses.
