How to get a “Baby Package”: explanation of the State Service of Ukraine for Children’s Affairs

State Service of Ukraine for Children provided detailed information about how parents can get a “Baby Package” – a one-time aid designed to support families who have a child. This assistance aims to provide proper care for the baby and make the initial period after the birth of the baby easier for the parents.

Composition of the “Baby Package” of 2024

The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine made changes to the composition of the “Baby Package”, taking into account the needs and wishes of parents, as well as the recommendations of experts. The updated composition includes:

• Reusable moisture-resistant diapers, necessary for the daily care of a child.
• Warm clothes, which provides comfort to the baby in cool weather.
• The increased size of the blanket-blanket with improved functionality and duration of use.
• Reduced quantity of small size clothing: taking into account the rapid growth of babies.
• The book “From birth to year”, developed by UNICEF: a practical guide for parents, including the best recommendations from around the world and Ukrainian experts.

An alternative option for receiving the “Baby Package” can be monetary compensation

Ukraine has introduced a pilot project that allows parents to choose between receiving a “Baby Package” and a one-time cash payment. The conditions for receiving monetary compensation are determined by a government decree, and its amount in 2024 is 7,689 hryvnias.

The procedure for receiving monetary compensation:

1. Application submission: the application can be submitted through the eMalyatko system or you can contact the social security authorities in person.
2. Special account: funds are transferred to a special account at “PrivatBank”.
3. Use of funds: the money can be spent exclusively on the child’s needs in retail establishments that have joined the monetization program. The list of institutions is available on the interactive map on the website of the Ministry of Social Policy.

What documents are required to receive the “Baby Package”

• If the child was born in a maternity hospital, but there was no package: it is necessary to submit an application and a child’s birth certificate.
• If the child was born outside the boundaries of a medical institution: you need to provide a document confirming the fact of birth, issued by a health care institution or a medical advisory commission.
• If the child was born abroad: it is necessary to provide a birth document issued by a foreign institution and its notarized translation into Ukrainian.

In order to receive monetary compensation instead of the “Baby Package”, you should contact the relevant institutions before the child reaches one year of age. Compensation can be issued in the following ways:

• Personally: by contacting the Center for the provision of administrative services (TsNAPU).
• By mail: send the application and all necessary documents to the social protection department of the district state administration.
• Online: using the “Diya” mobile application and the eMalyatko service.
