How Ukraine will return Ukrainians from abroad: Shmyhal talked about the Ministry of Return of Ukrainians

Since the full-scale war in Ukraine caused by Russian aggression, millions of Ukrainians have found themselves outside their native country, seeking safety and better living conditions. According to the latest estimates, approximately 7.5 million Ukrainian citizens live abroad today. Some of them left before the start of hostilities, others were forced to leave their homes due to the military threat. This situation creates great challenges for the state, because a significant number of qualified and able-bodied citizens are outside the borders of Ukraine, which can affect the country’s recovery after the war.
In this regard, the government of Ukraine decided to create a new ministry that will deal exclusively with issues of returning Ukrainians home. This initiative is part of the state’s large-scale strategy aimed at the return of its citizens and their active participation in the reconstruction of the country’s economy and infrastructure. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal at a press conference told about the government’s plans to create the Ministry of Return of Ukrainians, which, according to him, will become the main body that will coordinate this process.
In his speech, Denys Shmyhal emphasized that the new ministry will be responsible for the development and implementation of a strategy that will facilitate the return of Ukrainians from abroad. According to him, today this issue is of particular importance, because it is about millions of people who can become a driving force for the economic development of Ukraine in the post-war period. Shmyhal noted that the government is aware of the need to provide comprehensive assistance to those who plan to return. He also emphasized that this task requires clear coordination at all levels of government.
The idea of creating the Ministry of Return of Ukrainians is that it is necessary to establish an effective support system that will allow citizens to easily integrate into post-war life in Ukraine. It is important that those who decide to return have not only a safe environment, but also opportunities for employment, housing and social services. Shmyhal also emphasized that the Ministry will actively cooperate with international organizations, which will help attract the necessary resources for the implementation of these tasks.
One of the key aspects of the Ministry’s work will be the analysis of the geographical location of Ukrainian communities abroad. Shmyhal emphasized that the government has accurate data on where the largest number of Ukrainians live in Europe and the world in general. This information will help to correctly develop a strategy for their return, taking into account the individual needs of citizens depending on their place of stay. The Prime Minister also mentioned that many Ukrainians are in EU countries, some have already integrated into local societies, but the government will do everything possible to motivate them to return and become part of the reconstruction of Ukraine.
In addition, the Prime Minister drew attention to the fact that the return of Ukrainians will be important not only from the point of view of demography, but also economic development. Ukrainians living abroad have great potential, in particular, the knowledge and experience they have gained during their work and studies in other countries. Shmyhal emphasized that this potential should be used for the benefit of Ukraine, as they can make a significant contribution to the recovery of the country’s economy and infrastructure after the war.
The prime minister also noted that the new ministry will be responsible for coordinating efforts not only at the state level, but also at the international level. After all, it is important to create favorable conditions for the return of Ukrainians, which will include the issue of their social protection, employment and reintegration. The government plans to actively cooperate with international partners to develop programs that will help Ukrainians to return home painlessly and become part of the process of rebuilding the state.
In conclusion, Shmyhal emphasized that the return of Ukrainians is one of the government’s priorities, as this issue concerns not only demographic recovery, but also Ukraine’s future economic growth. According to him, the Ministry of the Return of Ukrainians will be a key element in the development of strategic plans that will help the country overcome the challenges it faced as a result of the war.
