Hungary and Gazprom discuss increasing gas supplies

Hungary and Russia’s Gazprom are negotiating an agreement for 2025, which provides for additional gas purchases by Budapest. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijarto, according to Russian mass media.

On October 10, during the gas forum in St. Petersburg, Gazprom and the Hungarian energy company MVM signed a memorandum of understanding regarding a possible increase in Russian gas supplies to Hungary.

Sijarto specified that the agreement envisages an increase in the volume of natural gas purchases. According to him, this became possible thanks to the capacity of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, which is planned to be used to increase supplies within the framework of existing commercial contracts.

The minister added that the signed memorandum also consolidates the practice of concluding additional agreements to long-term contracts, which helps to maintain competitive gas prices in the future.

As it became known, since the beginning of the year, Gazprom has already exported 5.7 billion cubic meters of gas to Hungary, which exceeds last year’s import volumes.
