In 2026, Norway plans to allocate 5.9 billion euros for military support to Ukraine
On October 15, the Government of Norway published the draft state budget for 2026, which provides 70 billion Norwegian kroner (5.9 billion euros) for military aid to Ukraine. Relevant information is contained in the press release of the Ministry of Defense of Norway.
The country’s government identified national security and preparedness for crisis situations as the main budget priorities for next year.
“In the defense budget, this is reflected in two main measures: the further strengthening of the armed forces, in accordance with the long-term plan, and the continuation of significant military support to Ukraine”, the Norwegian Ministry of Defense noted.
In addition, the government proposes to increase defense spending by another 4.2 billion crowns (360 million euros) in 2026 as part of the implementation of a long-term strategy for the development of the defense sector.
It is also planned to continue emergency support to Ukraine, which started in 2025 within the framework of the Nansen initiative. The total budget of the program in 2026 will amount to 85 billion crowns, of which 70 billion will be directed specifically to military aid. The total amount of the defense budget proposed by the Norwegian government for 2026 is 180 billion kroner, which corresponds to 3.4% of the country’s GDP.
We remind you that on October 9, Ukraine and Norway concluded a memorandum on cooperation in the field of defense technology development. Within the framework of the agreements, the joint program Brave-Norway is planned to be launched with a budget of 20 million euros.
