In Chernihiv region, military unit officials were suspected of embezzling 13,000 liters of fuel (video)

Three officials suspected of systematically stealing gasoline and diesel fuel intended for military equipment were exposed in a military unit in the Chernihiv region. According to information from the State Bureau of Investigation, this involved more than 13,000 liters of fuel. All three were declared suspects. For what they have done, they face up to fifteen years in prison, with possible deprivation of military rank and confiscation of property.

The investigation established that from August 2024 to July 2025, the officials regularly appropriated fuel and sold it to third parties. The organizer of the scheme was the chief of the material support company. He involved the company’s department commander and the head of the fuel and lubricants service in the deal.

To hide the fuel shortages, they entered knowingly false data into official documents, artificially inflating the volumes of fuel allegedly filled into the equipment. Part of the fuel accumulated as a surplus. During inspections, the servicemen transferred fuel to other tanks or fuel trucks to avoid detection. These actions caused losses to the state in the amount of hundreds of thousands of hryvnias.

The actions of the officials were qualified under Part Four of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for the appropriation of military property under martial law, as well as under Part Three of Article 28 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which defines a crime committed by an organized group.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are identifying other possible accomplices and taking measures to compensate for the damage caused to the state.
