In Kharkiv region, the SBI detained officials of the colony for abusing convicts (video)
In Kharkiv Oblast, with the assistance of the leadership of the DKVS, detained officials of the Oleksiiv Correctional Institution No. 25, who forced prisoners to unpaid and overtime work, using psychological pressure, intimidation and humiliation.
The investigation established that the management of the colony, with the participation of the operational department, systematically exerted illegal influence on the convicts. Prisoners were forced to work for free, including overtime, using blackmail, threats, insults and other forms of humiliation. Also, measures of disciplinary influence were applied without reason – people were placed in a disciplinary isolation ward (DIZO) or a cell-type facility (PCT).
On August 25, 2025, DBR employees detained five officials involved in these actions: the head and the first deputy of the colony, the assistant head on duty, as well as the head and operational officer of the operational department. They are charged with violation of Part 3 of Art. 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (torture). The sanction of the article provides imprisonment for a term of up to 12 years.
Procedural management in the case is carried out by the Department of Combating Human Rights Violations in the Law Enforcement and Penitentiary Spheres of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
