In Ovruch, Zhytomyr region, a man detonated a grenade on a train, there are dead and injured

In the city of Ovruch, Zhytomyr region, a man detonated a grenade while on a commuter train. The explosion killed four people and injured twelve others. The National Police of Ukraine reported this.

“It was previously established that the State Police of Ukraine were checking the documents of train passengers. At that time, one of the men pulled out an explosive device on the platform, after which an explosion occurred. As a result, a 23-year-old resident of Kharkiv, who had an explosive device, died. Three women aged 29, 58 and 82, residents of the Korosten region, were also fatally wounded. Among the dead is a border guard, the report says.

The incident occurred on the platform of the railway station in Ovruch, Korosten district. Police investigative and operational teams, explosives technicians, forensic experts and other emergency services are working at the scene. Currently, 12 people are known to have been injured. All the victims have been taken to the hospital, where they are receiving the necessary medical care.

The police are conducting priority investigative actions. The incident has been preliminarily classified under paragraphs 1 and 5 of Article 115 (intentional murder) and Article 348 (encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer, a member of a public formation for the protection of public order or the state border, or a serviceman) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
