In Poland, flights along the border with Ukraine and Belarus were restricted for 3 months

In the eastern regions of Poland, along the border with Ukraine and Belarus, a special restriction zone EP R129 was introduced, which will be in effect for three months. This was reported by the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PAŻP).

The decision was made by the Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Poland. The restrictions came into effect at 10:00 p.m. on September 10 and will last until 11:59 p.m. on December 9. According to the new rules, at night – from sunset to sunrise – flights within the zone are completely prohibited, except for military aircraft.

During the day, flights are allowed only:

  • aircraft with a submitted flight plan, transponder on and constant radio communication with controllers;
  • military aviation;
  • to aircraft under the code words GARDA, ALPHA SCRAMBLE;
  • flights with HEAD, STATE, SAR, HOSP, MEDEVAC, FFR status.

The use of civilian drones in the EP R129 zone is prohibited 24 hours a day. In exceptional cases, after coordination with the operational services, flights of government structures, rescue helicopters and flights related to the elimination of the consequences of natural disasters, emergency situations or the protection of critical infrastructure will be allowed. The Ministry of Defense of Poland explained that the restrictions were introduced to guarantee the security of the state.

Let us remind you that on the night of September 10, during the massive attack of the Russian Federation on Ukraine, kamikaze drones flew into Polish airspace. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced 19 recorded violations, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that, in addition to the wreckage of drones, fragments of a missile were also found.
