EU and the world

In Slovakia, the opposition accused Robert Fico of threatening Ukraine and acting in the interests of Russia

In Slovakia, the opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party has criticized Prime Minister Robert Fico for his statements about a possible suspension of electricity supplies to Ukraine. This is reported by Dennik N.

“This step is not only a moral defeat, but also purely economic nonsense,” – this is how the party reacted to the possibility of stopping electricity exports. SaS also called on the government to focus on diversifying oil supplies.

“Robert Fico is once again becoming an extension of Moscow’s hand and openly sabotaging Ukraine at a time when it is facing the harshest winter and Russian attacks on energy. This ultimatum is not about oil, but about shame for Slovakia – we will lose money for electricity, lose authority in the EU and once again show the world that we are on the wrong side of history. Fico does not want to help his neighbors, he wants to harm them. This is not politics, this is outright betrayal,” – said SaS chairman Branislav Gröling.

“Fico’s threat to cut off Ukraine’s electricity supply is logical nonsense. Without electricity, Druzhba is damaged difficult to repair, and without a stable power supply, even pumping stations cannot work reliably. The Prime Minister is trapping himself and the whole of Slovakia – if Ukraine does not have electricity to repair the infrastructure, the oil will never flow. And we will continue to sit here on emergency reserves,” said party MP Karol Halek.

Robert Fico said that he intends to initiate the suspension of electricity exports from Slovakia to Ukraine if the transit of Russian oil to Slovakia is not resumed by Monday.

In addition, Fico plans to send a monitoring mission to Brody to the site of damage to the Druzhba oil pipeline in order to obtain an expert assessment of the damage.
