Russia has declared a state of emergency at the Belgorod reservoir after the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck
A state of emergency has been declared in Belgorod after Ukrainian military strikes on the dam of a local reservoir. This is reported by Russian media.
A state of emergency has been introduced in the city after two attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the dam. According to the Federal Water Resources Agency “Tsentrregionvodhoz”, the strikes damaged the bottom outlet and both gates responsible for regulating the water level.
As a result, the water level has dropped by about one meter. Emergency restoration work is underway at the site – workers are filling the canal to prevent the reservoir from becoming shallow and possible flooding of downstream areas.
As a reminder, on the night of October 25, Russian media and local publications reported an attack by Ukrainian troops on the dam of the Belgorod reservoir using HIMARS missiles. According to their data, several technical buildings, the lifting mechanisms of one of the locks and the crest of the dam were damaged.
The following night, October 26, information appeared about a new attack – this time by drones. As a result of the strike, the dam was damaged, which caused a sharp rise in the water level in the Seversky Donets River. In the morning, the water level dropped by more than a meter, and during the day the attacks continued.
After that, the authorities reported the flooding of ten areas in the Shebekinsky district and began evacuating residents. It is preliminary believed that the strike on the dam could actually cut off part of the Russian troops from supplies and crossings, complicating their combat operations in this direction.
On the evening of October 26, the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert “Magyar” Brodsky confirmed that drones from the 1st Separate Center of the SBS (formerly the 14th Regiment) hit the Belgorod Reservoir dam, causing it to “crack.”
