In Tatarstan, they supported an imam who taught men to beat women and wives to forgive on TV
The newly minted "TV star" claims that women should explain that they are doing something wrong.
In Tatarstan, a video was shown on television with the participation of Timur Hazrat Kamaev, the head of the Muslim community, who taught men to beat their wives. In response to the public outcry, the Muslim Spiritual Authority (DUM) urged viewers to “watch the podcast in its entirety”, but this did not change the essence of the imam’s words.
According to media reports, Kamaev was asked to explain a fragment of the Koran about beating women. The imam interpreted this passage as the need to punish wives whose behavior seems wrong to their husbands.
According to his explanation, men should first explain to women that they are “doing something wrong”. The next step is “sharing the bed,” which Kamaev says is the punishment the Koran recommends for wives who displease their husbands.
If this method also does not work, then, according to the imam, it is the turn of physical punishment, which, according to him, should not leave bruises or cause injuries. Kamaev advised to use a misvak – a stick for brushing teeth – and “hit from the elbow” for this.
Such advice, promoted by Kamaev, amounts to humiliating ways to force women to submit to the will of men. He also noted that for a woman to forgive violence is a blessing.
“If the wife forgives, it will be good for her. If the family is preserved and they will have a good life in the future, then this will be the best way for her. If the violence continues regularly, then you need to turn to the Hazrat. If the husband constantly hits, it’s not normal”– said the imam.
The State Duma of Tatarstan advised outraged viewers to watch the full version of the podcast and not to tolerate domestic violence, but to contact the police or other spiritual mentors.
