Almost 26,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in Germany since 2022

Since mid-2022, approximately 26,000 Ukrainian servicemen have been trained in Germany under the coordination of the Multinational Special Training Command (MN ST-C). This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The department specified that within the framework of this mission, training took place at more than 50 military and industrial training sites throughout Germany.

The training covered basic military disciplines in all operational domains. In particular, it was about joint military training, fire training, tactical planning, medical training, protection against weapons of mass destruction (WMD), demining, logistics and communications.

“In addition, specialized training formats, as well as training of staff officers, strengthened leadership qualities, management capabilities and operational planning. All branches of the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) allocated personnel and specialists, with the support of highly motivated multinational instructors,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted.

The General Staff also separately emphasized the “operational feedback” of the ST-C MN with the Ukrainian military, since “first-hand” information about the situation on the battlefield directly influenced the creation and conduct of training programs.

“This allowed for rapid adjustment of training priorities, in particular in such areas as the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), tactical procedures, as well as maintenance and support of the serviceability of weapons and military equipment (MTE) in combat conditions. Training was invariably planned and conducted in accordance with the principle of “adaptation to the combat mission”, — explained the General Staff.

In addition, the ST-C MN continued to operate as a multinational headquarters. Of the approximately 100 full-time positions, about a third are occupied by military personnel from 13 partner countries, which, as noted by the General Staff, demonstrates a common European commitment to supporting Ukraine.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine added that in recent months, the ST-C Mission has remained a “key operational element” in supporting the EU’s military assistance mission to Ukraine – EUMAM Ukraine, training the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in accordance with combat needs and with an orientation to the implementation of specific tasks.

In November last year, the EU Council extended the mandate of its training mission EUMAM Ukraine for another two years – until November 15, 2026. The EUMAM Ukraine mission was created in October 2022 to assist in the training of Ukrainian military personnel. Within its framework, training mainly takes place in Poland and Germany. The coalition currently includes 32 partner states, which are organizationally part of two military support missions for Ukraine. These are the Security Assistance Group for Ukraine (SAG-U) and the EU Military Assistance Mission to Ukraine (EUMAM).

Over the past two years of the mission’s operation, about 70,000 Ukrainian soldiers have received training in the territory of 24 participating countries.
