“Ineffective and in need of radical revision”: Lithuanian Foreign Minister on the European Union’s strategy to support Ukraine

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielus Landsbergis, stated that the strategy of supporting Ukraine, which was used by the European Union in recent years during the war with Russia, turned out to be ineffective and needs a radical revision. It was reported LRT.

According to Gabrielus Landsbergis, the approach aimed at de-escalating the conflict can no longer be considered effective. He emphasized that Europe needs to develop a completely new strategy for helping Ukraine. The minister noted: “I am convinced that we have reached such a stage when we can frankly admit that the strategy of supporting Ukraine, which we implemented for almost a thousand days, has collapsed.”

Gabrielus Landsbergis also expressed the opinion that the concept of “peace through de-escalation” turned out to be unsuccessful, and the approach to supporting Ukraine should be based on a demonstration of force. The minister explained that by “force” he meant real military support, including the supply of weapons and the removal of all restrictions that could prevent Ukraine from defending its territory.

In addition, Gabrielus Landsbergis commented on media reports that the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, for the first time allowed Ukraine to use long-range American weapons against targets located on the territory of the Russian Federation. He emphasized that it is important to understand how many such missiles Ukraine has at its disposal.

According to the Axios portal, the permission to attack Russian military facilities with ATACMS missiles applies in particular to the territory of the Kursk region. Such a decision is probably a response to North Korea’s involvement of its military in supporting Russia’s actions in this conflict. At the same time, The New York Times reported that the White House refused to officially confirm Ukraine’s permission to use long-range missiles for attacks on Russian territory, but noted that measures were being developed in response to North Korea’s intervention in the war.
