Investigation raises suspicions against resort management over death of tourist in Dragobrat

The management of the Dragobrat ski resort has been declared suspicious in the case of the death of a tourist. This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The tragedy occurred on January 18, 2025. A 28-year-old doctor from the Volyn region came to the resort with friends. According to the investigation, while climbing the lift, she covered about 350 meters, after which she could not hold on to the cable, fell and began to slide rapidly down the slope. At high speed, the woman hit her head on a metal fence that did not have protective mats and died on the spot.

During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers conducted a number of examinations, including occupational safety examinations. Their conclusions showed that the resort management did not ensure the proper technical condition of the fences, allowed the lift to operate in dangerous conditions, and did not organize the functioning of the emergency and rescue service on the territory of the complex. It was after receiving these results, according to the investigation, that legal grounds appeared for reporting suspicion.

The suspects are charged with violating safety rules during the performance of work with increased danger by a person who is obliged to comply with them, which caused the death of a person under Part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing preventive measures is currently being resolved, while the prosecutor’s office plans to request the detention of the suspects.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Main Police Department in the Zakarpattia region under the procedural guidance of the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor’s Office. At the same time, in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent until his guilt is proven by a court verdict.
