King Charles III of Great Britain stripped his brother Andrew of his title of prince and forced him to leave his home near Windsor Castle
King Charles III has stripped his younger brother Andrew of his title of prince and evicted him from his estate near Windsor Castle. The decision was made because of the duke’s ties to the notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Reuters reports.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement that Andrew had also been given formal notice to end his tenancy at Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate, near London, and to move to alternative private accommodation in eastern England.
“These sanctions are necessary, despite the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make it clear that their thoughts and deepest sympathies have been and remain with the victims and survivors of all forms of abuse”, Buckingham Palace said.
Despite Andrew continuing to deny the allegations, it has become clear that his actions were “serious lapses in judgement”. The decision was made by Charles III, but was supported by most members of the royal family, including the heir to the throne, Prince William.
As a reminder, on October 17, Prince Andrew voluntarily agreed to renounce the title of Duke of York and royal honors due to allegations of ties to financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Prince Andrew officially announced that after consultations with the king and family members, he would renounce his titles and awards, noting that after he “stepped back from the life” of the royal family five years ago, he would take “another step.” At the same time, Andrew emphasized that, as before, he denies all the accusations against him. His daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will retain their titles.
