Japan will provide special equipment for clearing rubble and modular post offices to frontline communities in Ukraine

Japan will provide Ukraine with 66 units of technical equipment for frontline regions within the framework of the Emergency Recovery and Reconstruction Project with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This was reported by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

In particular, it is planned to supply 20 modular Ukrposhta branches, which will be installed in communities where stationary post offices were destroyed or damaged as a result of hostilities. They are expected to ensure the uninterrupted provision of postal and financial services even under conditions of limited infrastructure.

In addition, communities in Sumy, Zaporizhia, and Chernihiv regions will receive 40 units of heavy equipment intended for clearing rubble and performing municipal works. The Training Center in Bila Tserkva will receive separate support – it will be given a modern training simulator for training operators of heavy construction equipment, as well as five units of new construction and cargo equipment.

The equipment will be purchased by the Japanese side, and delivery to Ukrainian cities is planned to be completed within the next six months.

“Cooperation with JICA is yielding tangible results for our communities. The supply of modular Ukrposhta branches ensures uninterrupted access to postal and other services where they are limited due to hostilities. At the same time, additional heavy equipment for Sumy, Zaporizhia and Chernihiv regions is our operational resource for clearing rubble and quickly restoring municipal infrastructure,” said Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Maryna Denysiuk. The department emphasized that the Emergency Recovery and Reconstruction Project is an international technical assistance initiative aimed at rebuilding Ukrainian infrastructure through Quick Impact Projects (QIP). In total, since 2023, under the coordination of the Ministry of Development and Cooperation and in cooperation with JICA, Ukraine has received technical and grant assistance from the Japanese government in the amount of over 700 million US dollars, which were aimed at supporting energy, transport, medicine, education, water supply, humanitarian demining, the agricultural sector and municipal facilities.
