Most IDPs live below poverty line: MP

The majority of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine are now below the poverty line, which puts them in a critical situation and requires immediate support. To help such people, a special commission was created to protect their rights and interests. About this reported People’s Deputy of Ukraine Vitaly Voytsechivskyi during the “Vechir.LIVE” broadcast on October 16.

According to Wojciechivskyi, the situation with IDPs is critical, and they need not only the help of local communities, but also active support from the state. He emphasized that the special temporary commission that was created aims to develop a draft law that will protect the rights of people who have suffered from Russian aggression. First of all, we are talking about internally displaced persons who need special attention from the state.

“For this purpose, we created our temporary special commission. We believe that the result of this commission’s work should be a draft law that will protect the rights of all persons who suffered from Russian aggression. First of all, it is clear that these are internally displaced persons.”, – emphasized the people’s deputy.

For his part, People’s Deputy Ruslan Gorbenko noted that, unfortunately, the state will not be able to provide housing for all internally displaced persons, as the scale of the problem is enormous. However, it is planned to introduce special “vouchers” to help such people, which will allow displaced people to rent housing on their own or receive certain compensations.

In addition, the government continues to pay cash assistance to IDPs. Today, more than 1.2 million internally displaced people receive housing benefits, which help them meet their basic needs in conditions where they have been forced to leave their homes due to war.
