Julie Davis Appointed Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the United States in Ukraine

The US Department of State has appointed Julie Davis as US chargé d’affaires in Ukraine. She will head the embassy in Kyiv from May 5, replacing Bridget Brink in this position. About this informs CGTN.

The embassy noted that Julie Davis will begin her duties on Monday, May 5. The appointment of Davis is seen as a clear signal that the Donald Trump administration views Ukraine as a strategic partner, especially amid growing tensions with Russia.

“Ambassador Davis will lead the embassy’s engagement in Kyiv with the government and people of Ukraine on behalf of President Trump and Secretary of State Rubio. In this role, she will work tirelessly to end the war and stop the bloodshed, strengthening bilateral relations, making both America and Ukraine safer, stronger and more prosperous”, – says the message.

Davis has more than 30 years of diplomatic service and has held a number of key positions in the US State Department. She worked as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Western European and European Union Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, as well as Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to NATO. In addition, she served as a special envoy for Belarus in Vilnius and currently serves as the US ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus.

Among her previous positions are US ambassador to Cyprus, special envoy for Belarus (appointed in 2020, the first since 2008), chief of staff of the deputy secretary of state for management and resources, director of the State Department’s Operations Center, as well as work in the American embassies in Georgia, Ukraine and of Russia

Julie Davis was educated at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Princeton University’s School of International and Public Affairs. She is fluent in Russian and French.
